How Remote Online Notarization Can Benefit You

If you’ve ever had to have a document notarized, it may have seemed like a daunting process. Traditionally, by law, notarizations had to be done in-person. Between scheduling appointments and either having to get in your car and drive somewhere or having a complete stranger coming into your home, sign here or initial there, not to mention the entire screening process seemed more intensive than trying to get into the CIA, many people would have rather had some teeth pulled.

But it is done this way to protect you. Notaries perform a very important service. It’s absolutely essential that whatever document you’re having notarized can stand up in a court of law. I don’t need to tell you that we live in a litigious society. Can you turn on the TV without some lawyer promising you some easy money? A notary’s main duty is to confirm the identity of the signer(s) as well as ensuring that the participants are doing so willingly. This significantly reduce the risk of being on the wrong end of a lawsuit. Besides, financial companies dealing with major transactions like getting a mortgage, healthcare related activities, and estate planning will require you to have the documents notarized.

Good news. Times have changed. Remote Online Notarizations (RON) are quickly replacing the traditional method. Instead of meeting in person, it’s done online from the comfort of your own home. It’s much easier to schedule a notarization as well since there is more flexibility for the notary. All you need is a mobile device, an internet connection, and a phone to take your picture. Not all states offer this service, but many implementing due to Covid-19. Even if you’re state does not, you can still have a document notarized by a notary in a state that does.

I came across this article that points out the benefits of RON. It’s geared from the notary perspective, but it applies to the clients as well.

Any questions, send me an email, or just let me know what you liked/disliked in any of your previous notarizations so I can help solve your problems in the future.
